Crown Financial Ministries, In2M Team to Offer Crown Mvelopes

GAINESVILLE, Georgia – November 1, 2005 – Crown Financial Ministries recently announced that it has partnered with In2M Corporation, developers of Mvelopes® Personal, to offer Crown™ Mvelopes®, an online personal financial management tool, directly through www.crown.org. The web-based application offers the anytime, anywhere convenience of online banking in a one-stop financial management center.

“We have been working for years to teach people the need to live within their means,” said George Murphy, Chief Information Officer of Crown Financial Ministries. “With the addition of Crown Mvelopes to our product line, we are bringing these principles into the twenty-first century and adding what we believe is the premier online personal budgeting tool available today.”

Unlike other programs that simply track your transactions in an account register to show your ending balance, Mvelopes divides the money in your accounts among separate virtual “envelopes” such as groceries, mortgage, entertainment and savings – each with its own register and balance. The idea is that by viewing the envelope balance instead of a checking account balance, you can see that although a specific purchase may not adversely affect your account, it can adversely affect your ability to cover other expenses, such as a car payment, groceries, or your daughter’s birthday. The service links directly to your bank account(s) and automatically receives transactions in real time.

“Because you can see – from anywhere at anytime – exactly how much money you have left in any given category, Mvelopes makes budgeting less abstract and allows the personal interaction with our finances that has practically disappeared in today’s nearly cashless society,” said Steven B. It is that lack of interaction with one’s money to which Smith attributes overspending. “The average consumer today spends ten percent more than his or her net paycheck,” said Smith. “With most families using multiple checking and credit card accounts, and paying with debit or credit cards, spending money has become more abstract than it used to be. It’s harder to keep track of, and consequently most of us don’t know we’re overspending until it’s too late.”
