Building Strong Marriages in a Weak Economy
Gainesville, GA -- In tough economic times, couples who were already struggling with financial issues can be pushed to the brink of divorce…and beyond.
Surveys already show that money is a leading cause of disagreement and strain in marriages. But when money problems are amplified by crises like income reductions and job losses, these problems can reach critical proportions.
Helping couples avoid such problems while building strong marriages is a long-time passion of Howard Dayton, cofounder of Crown Financial Ministries.
On March 7, Howard was a guest speaker at the “Your Money and Marriage Turnaround,” held in Chicago and sponsored by Moody Conferences.
During the conference, Howard focused on biblically sound financial advice to help couples navigate a difficult economy. He has incorporated this same type of advice, and much more, into a new book titled Money and Marriage God’s Way.
While working on the book, Howard led a focus group that included marriage experts from various ministries. The resulting research was compiled and incorporated into the book.
Howard notes that God created marriage and provides financial principles intended to unite couples. It is important for couples to learn and apply these principles, because when they exclude God from their financial decisions, they can become misaligned in their goals, resulting in confusion.
Couples are supposed to operate as one. Jesus said that when a man and woman are married, “they are no longer two, but one” (Mark 10:8 niv). This oneness is destroyed by divorce stemming from financial conflicts. But couples who’ve learned and applied God’s financial principles report that their marriages are strengthened.
Money and Marriage God’s Way is published by Moody Publishers. It will be released in April 2009 along with a companion Couple’s Personality ID® Assessment available online at www.MoneyandMarriage.org. For more information visit Crown.org and MoodyPublishers.com.
