Love and Obey – For Your Own Good

Do you love God?

The Bible contains more than 2,300 verses about money. Many are direct commands given for our good. God gave Moses commands to teach the people so that things would go well with them in the promised land. He said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” (Deuteronomy 6:5) Several chapters later he said, What does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?” (Deuteronomy 10:12-13) For – Your – Own – Good!

Biblical financial principles are not meant to restrict you. They’re commands given from a loving Father who wants the very best for you! Jesus said, Blessed …are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” (Luke 11:28) And, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” (John 14:23) Biblical love is about action. We’re to love God with active, faithful obedience. He’s redeemed us, forgiven us, and extended boundless grace to us. We’re adopted, sealed with the Holy Spirit, and made heirs with Christ. What love! How could we not want to obey Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength? Doing so is for our own good!
