The Tongue

The tongue can destroy careers and reputations.

James chapter 3 describes the tongue. Though small, it can set the course of one’s life on fire. That means we must steward words carefully, especially in the workplace. Don’t gossip or join those who do. Never send messages you would regret seeing in a job review. Avoid those who are quick to criticism or anger. Look for those who forgive and forget, who don’t repeat the failings of others. Be discerning. Never lie, flatter, or manipulate. Don’t boast or brag, but affirm admirable qualities and accomplishments in others. As ambassadors of Christ, speak of others the way you want others to speak of you.
