Give and You’ll Learn To Trust

Tithing is our response to God’s generosity.

When we remember our blessings, we’re motivated to give. The Lord asks us to give of our “first-fruits” but entrusts us with 90% to take care of our needs. Matt Tullos gives 16 reasons to tithe to the church. Listen closely: It’s worship, a promise, a teacher, and a blessing. It’s a provision, a test, an investment, and it’s eternal. It’s a miracle, a faith-building, tax-deductible, source of joy. It’s a unifier, greed-slayer, it’s contagious and Biblical.

So ask yourself, “Do I really trust God? Or am I afraid I won’t have enough to do what I want if I give? Are your desires more important than God’s? Surrendering your finances to God allows Him to multiply what you give – and what you have leftover. Proverbs 3 says: “Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first-fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.”

God wants us to be rich toward Him instead of ourselves, so we’ll share what He has provided for us. Our founder, Larry Burkett, once said, “My greatest fear in life is standing before the Lord and hearing Him say, ‘I had so much more for you, but you held on too tightly.’” When we obediently follow Biblical financial principles, giving becomes our highest priority. God can supply our needs in unexpected ways and allow us to give more generously. Eliminating debt frees up funds to share with others.
