Bottom-Line Results

Are you driven by bottom-line results?

Many rationalize bottom-line results, thinking, “If the returns are good, it doesn’t matter if my source of counsel or the means to my desired outcome aren’t godly – right? Money’s neutral.” Well, money is neutral. It can be used for good or evil, but for Christians, there’s more to the bottom line. God knew the Israelites would be tempted to forget Him when they experienced prosperity. In Deuteronomy 8, he warned them through Moses: “Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God. … Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will grow proud and you will forget the Lord your God…” (Deuteronomy 8 11:14) “You may say to yourself, ‘My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.’ But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth…” (Deuteronomy 8: 17-18)

Now the Lord knows that we’re easily deceived. We even think that keeping misplaced dependencies to ourselves will hide our pride from Him. Now that’s impossible. The real bottom line is not how successful you are at making money, but whether you remember and acknowledge that God provided you with the abilities to earn it. Apart from Him, you can do nothing. God deserves the glory for your financial success. The way you achieve it must be above board and honoring of him and all the people created in his image.
