Dangers of Debit Cards
Do you carry a debit card?
I have a debit card, but I rarely use it. I certainly don’t use it to buy anything. A debit card doesn’t offer legal protection should your card or account number fall into the hands of a criminal. Now if you’re trying to avoid using a credit card, then make your purchases with real cash, using your debit card to get cash at a reliable ATM, then put the card away in a safe place. Simply carry the cash you need for the day. It prevents you from spending more than you should and causes you to plan ahead. I recommend always carrying an emergency bill in your wallet. Whether that be a twenty or a hundred-dollar bill, keep it tucked away for unexpected needs.
How about a credit card? Studies show that people spend more using credit cards instead of cash. In fact, people may spend up to 100% more when using a credit card. When eating out, people tip more with credit cards as well. Now, I’m not against credit cards by any means. Just use them wisely and pay them off every month. A prepaid credit card can limit spending. It can also be a way to help teens learn how to use one and hopefully manage their money well. Credit cards are valuable in buying airline tickets or other online purchases. A reward card can be very beneficial with major purchases, like appliances. Now God tests us to see if we’re trustworthy with all He provides. Limit your use and exercise wisdom using any cards.
