Cash Stuffing
Have you heard of “cash stuffing”?
TikTokers are obsessed with a popular money-saving method called “cash stuffing.” The hashtag #cashstuffing has over 300 million views on TikTok. Thankfully people are discovering that using cash makes tracking and saving money easier. It’s a simple, free way to budget and form positive money habits. Cash Stuffing is just a renaming of The envelope system which is a simple, tested-and-true way to track your spending. It doesn’t require anything more than a few envelopes. Crown’s Founder, Larry Burkett, pioneered the cash envelope system decades ago. It still works just as effectively because it helps you literally see where your money goes. Each month, you divide cash into different envelopes that represent different spending categories. You record every purchase. This helps you see where your money is going. At the end of each week you review your spending and make adjustments. Continue to record and review week after week after week. You’ll spend less because your envelopes hold you accountable.
For extra encouragement, recruit a friend or mentor to walk alongside you. If you record, review and recruit you’ll make financial progress. Using cash connects you to the value of hard earned money. It’s much harder to take cash out of an envelope than to simply hand over a credit card. Using cash is also a reminder that it all belongs to God. You’ve been entrusted to manage it wisely. So try the envelope system and see how much it helps you!
And if poor money habits have led to credit card debt, I recommend Christian Credit Counselors. They’ll create a debt management plan that works for you. For more information call the Crown Helpline: 800-722-1976 or visit online at crown.org/ccc.
