Be Free From The Love Of Money

Is your relationship with God separate from your relationship with money?

The Bible makes it clear that as believers in Jesus Christ we have a personal relationship with God.  He’s our Master. We’re His servants. The Bible also makes it clear that we must guard our hearts to avoid loving money. Hebrews 13:5 says, “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” The problem with loving money is two-fold. First, it makes money your Master instead of God. No one can serve two masters. You’ll hate the one and love the other, or you’ll be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Second, money does not love you back. It never has and it never will.

God wants us to serve Him as our rightful Master and use money as a tool. Acknowledging that we’re temporary stewards over all He provides will keep money off the throne of your heart. This removes the pride of ownership. When we can love God with all of our heart, mind and soul, we steward money without the emotional attachment that develops when it tries to take over the throne of our hearts.  Oftentimes people do not admit that they love money, but they do admit they feel much more secure with it than without it. God is out only true security. So run money out of your heart and invite God to sit on that throne. Embrace the journey of becoming a good and faithful steward. Now you don’t have to hate money, just keep it away from your heart.
