Insurance Planning
Would you drive cross-country without a spare tire?
Well, would you play at Wimbledon without an extra tennis racket? Of course not, and I certainly wouldn’t travel as much as I do without some kind of life insurance. Insurance is not specifically defined in Scripture; however, the principle of ‘future provision’ is. Insurance can provide where a potential loss would be excessive. It can help a family when a major illness or disability strikes. It provides income in the death of a spouse. It pays medical bills or repairs a damaged home. For automobile liability coverage, insurance is vital. Solomon said, “A prudent man sees evil and hides himself, the naïve proceed and pay the penalty.” (Proverbs 27:12)
Insurance can protect what God has blessed you with. Just don’t allow insurance to replace the Lord. The goal is wise planning grounded in Truth so that our families are protected. The Bible tells us to seek wise counsel. Since no one plan fits everyone and they need updating over time, I recommend finding a trustworthy insurance agent. Get references from people you know well. He or she can help you make wise decisions. Ask the agent to thoroughly define the insurance plan in writing. Then compare prices. Most young couples will need term life insurance to start. Just remember, “in an abundance of counselors there is victory.” (Proverbs 24:6) Insurance is one way to responsibly provide for those you love. Plan well so that you can live simply and give generously.
And if you have credit card debt due to lack of planning, I recommend Christian Credit Counselors. They’ll create a debt management plan that works for you. For more information call the Crown Helpline: 800-722-1976 or visit online at crown.org/ccc.
