Crazy Money! Skinniest Skyscraper
It’s Crazy Money Day!
The Steinway Tower in Manhattan is the world’s skinniest skyscraper. Standing at over 1,400 feet, it’s a mere 57 ½ feet wide, and it’s the second-tallest residential tower in the Western Hemisphere. The 60 luxury condos have a 360-degree view of the city. Prices go all the way up to $66 million. It’s located on Manhattan’s 57th Street, otherwise known as “Billionaire’s Row.” No wonder! Steinway Tower has several unique features. The original building was once a renowned concert hall and home to the piano maker Steinway and Sons. A textured facade of bronze and terra cotta creates wind turbulence that slows movement of the building in heavy winds. It reminds me of Mark 13. “As Jesus was leaving the temple, one his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!” Jesus replied, “Do you see all these great buildings? Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.” (Matthew 13:1-2)
Jesus was helping his disciples to guard their hearts from being impressed with the wrong things, after all, they were standing in the presence of the Living God. Let’s not be impressed by things of this world. Our time here is short. May our hearts be moved by what God’s doing and wisely steward what He provides. Let’s keep the Lord foremost in our minds regardless of what impressive buildings we see.
