Living as Ambassadors For Christ

Are you kind to others when things go wrong? 

Last month I rented a car and discovered it needed oil after the rental company closed. Because I had to leave early the next morning, I ran to the store and bought enough oil to fill the car and some extra in case I needed it down the road. When returning the car, I politely explained the situation. The employee thanked me for taking care of it, refunded me the cost of the oil, and a little extra for my hassle. In addition, she gave me two free rental days for the future. Now, had I gone in and complained or demanded a refund, the scenario might have been different.

We’re ambassadors of Christ. Our words and actions impact others. In Colossians 3, the Apostle Paul said, “As God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. So often, when we’re offended, mistreated, or inconvenienced, we immediately lose our perspective and become angry. Imagine how unpleasant it must be to work in an environment when people are rude or demanding when something goes wrong. Kindness is needed most when it is least deserved. The next time your plane is late, or someone cuts you off in traffic, remember light shines brightest in the darkest places. By simply being kind, you will make someone’s day and likely get treated better in return. We never know who we’ll reach when living as Christ’s ambassadors.
