Principles of Stewardship

Good stewardship involves your beliefs and behaviors when it comes to money.

You’ve been entrusted to manage resources for the Creator of the Universe. Whether it’s a lot or little, it’s a big responsibility. When managed well, those resources can further the Kingdom of God. Godly stewards live differently than the rest of the world. We don’t judge or criticize others, but we prioritize and manage our own lives in such a way that God can use us according to His will. Saying “No” to things of this world allows us to say “Yes” to things of God. Living in light of this, we see how money is a powerful tool for present and eternal impact. Now there are several principles of stewardship. Learning and applying these will give you great peace. 

• First, God owns everything. We’re simply His managers. 

• When making financial decisions, humility is a great strength. 

• Knowing that God is present brings hope, even in extreme situations.

• Finally, contentment comes from understanding and accepting God’s sovereign plan for our lives. 

If you’re in the midst of a financial storm, can I challenge you to rest before the Lord? Psalm 46 provides great encouragement. Listen for God’s voice. It begins, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear…” (Psalm 46:1-2) Farther down it says, “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10) Knowing these truths, you can rest and ask Him for strength to wisely steward all He’s given you.
