Biblical Relationship With Money

What’s your relationship with money?

Everyone has a relationship with money and possessions. It’s the misuse of these things that reveal what’s going on in the heart.  They’re symptoms of the real problem. That’s why Jesus constantly warned us to guard our hearts against greed, covetousness, ego, and pride. They’re tools that Satan uses to control and manipulate the world. Faith, according to Hebrews 11 is “confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1) It means trusting God 100%. Most of us desire to exercise this kind of faith, but the world tells us to do just the opposite. If you don’t have the money for what you “need”, the world says then borrow to get it. If it’s too expensive, don’t worry – you deserve it!

A Biblical worldview of money is different. God’s Word says we can learn to be content and dedicate ourselves to serving Him. Discontentment causes restlessness, an inability to experience peace living with what God’s already provided. It leads to poor financial decisions and a philosophy that says you need more, bigger, better, and faster. King Solomon learned that a worldly relationship with wealth would never bring satisfaction. In Ecclesiastes 5:10 he said, “He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income…” True satisfaction comes from a grateful heart that leads to contentment. “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good – His love endures forever.” (1 Chronicles 16:34)
