Ever been a victim of car theft?

Back in college, a friend of mine had his car stolen twice on the same day! The keys were in it, parked in front of his house. It disappeared along with his watches. When he located it, the keys were missing. After finding another key, he returned to find that the seats, the tires, and anything of value had been completely stripped out. Today, the most commonly stolen cars are the most widely owned ones. Thieves don’t want to stand out. To protect your car, lock all doors and completely close windows. Park in well-lit areas, remove the keys, and don’t leave a spare nearby. Take any valuables like cell phones and other electronics, purses, backpacks, and gym bags. If you don’t have an alarm, consider installing an anti-theft device and an audible alarm system. An immobilizer prevents “hotwiring” and a tracking or vehicle recovery system will aid the police in quickly locating a stolen car. A steering wheel lock and other deterrents can be ordered for cars that are frequently targeted.

Always be alert and aware of your surroundings. If a car is stolen, contact the police immediately. They’ll need the make, model, color, and year of the vehicle as well as your license plate information. They may also want the VIN or vehicle identification number. Within 24 hours, inform your insurance company. Is theft covered under your policy? Be sure and check to be certain. By being proactive you may be able to avoid becoming a victim!
