Crazy Money! Governor Donates Salary

It’s Crazy Money Day!

A prison ministry in Virginia recently received a public servant’s first-quarter salary. The Good News Jail and Prison Ministry takes the gospel, as well as faith-based resources, to inmates in over 350 jails and prisons worldwide. Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin pledged to serve for three months without accepting a salary so that he could support the people of his state. At the end of March, he and his wife Susan presented Good News with a donation of  $44,000. According to the Council of State Governments, Governor Youngkin’s annual salary is $175,000. I don’t know him personally, but I appreciate the way he’s stewarding his money and influence to benefit those under his care.

In 1 Corinthians 4, the Apostle Paul said believers are servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it’s required that stewards be found faithful. Quite often, the demonstration of our stewardship is not how much we give but how we react when there’s not much to give. We can’t experience peace in the area of finances until we surrender total control of this area to God – and remain fully faithful to give whether it’s a lot or a little. All of us have limited days on earth to bless others with what we’ve been given. It’s a great responsibility and a true privilege. Let’s not squander on ourselves that which could ultimately change the eternal life of another. Let’s remember the crazy good example of Governor Youngkin!
