The High Price of Groceries – Part 2

Trying to save money on groceries?

To save money on groceries, you’ve got to get serious and proactive. Consider a diet by reducing your consumption of prepackaged and costly foods and drinks. Then, stop eating out for a month. You WILL instantly save some money! Next, gather your small group or friends to share tips and split bulk purchases. Discover some budget-saving recipes and cheaper dinner ideas. Notify one another of sales, and share your items you find. Learn to make all that you can from scratch, including salad dressings and snacks. Involve the family and praise their effort to fight this battle. Try not to complain, especially in front of your spouse or children.

Remember the Israelites whom God rescued out of Egypt? He provided for their every need, yet they failed to meditate on His goodness. Forgetting to give thanks for his miraculous provision, they wept in self-pity saying aloud: Oh that we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic. But now our strength is dried up, and there is nothing at all but this manna to look at.” (Numbers 11:4-6) Being mindful of this, focus on what God has provided. Ask Him to help you become more frugal. Determine to have a good attitude. Enjoy picnics and potlucks with friends and family. Host a “Cheapest Meal Competition” that must also be delicious! Challenge your family to memorize Psalm 100, and give thanks at every meal.

Come make new friends at Crown’s 2023 Reunion. We plan to gather October 12-15 at Ridgecrest Conference Center near beautiful Asheville, North Carolina. I hope to see you there. For more details and registration, go to crown.org/reunion.
