Treat Employees Fairly – Part 2

Do you treat your employees fairly?

When employees are under your authority, it’s your responsibility to pay them well and provide appropriate benefits. They’re more likely to work with excellence when recognized and compensated fairly. If you can’t afford to give raises, budget this for the future. In the meantime, offer other incentives or take a pay cut to help them. The apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 2: 3-4, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

Here are a few ways to look after the interest of your employees. Conduct compensation reviews along with performance reviews. Give raises, bonuses, or increase benefits as possible. If there’s no room in the budget, make other cuts in order to care for your people. Start a Bible study on money. Meet early in the morning one day a week with all who are committed to learning. Offer Biblical financial education during a lunch break once a week or once a month. I was invited to speak to the employees of a local engineering firm on a monthly basis. Likewise, you could bring in guest speakers with expertise on different financial topics. Offer quarterly seminars that are open to spouses. Recruit trained instructors or plug in one of our online courses. Food and child care will increase attendance. Creating a healthy work culture retains and attracts talent. Treating your employees fairly is a big step in that direction.

Now we have great speakers lined up for Crown’s 2023 Reunion. I invite you to join us October 12-15 at Ridgecrest Conference Center near beautiful Asheville, North Carolina. For more details and registration, go to crown.org/reunion.
