Don’t Be Anxious

Is debt making you anxious?

Many Americans are suffering from increasingly high credit card debt. Financial illiteracy, bad money habits, and continually spending more than you earn will lead to serious debt levels. Inflation makes it worse; so do medical bills and home and car repairs. If you’ve suffered a job loss or are under-employed, the burden is especially heavy. Perhaps your debt is the result of lifestyle choices that need to be addressed. Commit to paying it off. If you’re married, agree with your spouse to make this a turning point in your lives. If you’re single, ask a trusted friend or family member to hold you accountable.

Pray, confess, and repent of financial mismanagement. Seek God’s blessing going forward, and the discipline to pay off all debt. Then, make a budget, and begin to track your spending. Give first, and save second with every paycheck. This will reset your priorities – and it honors God. Stop using credit cards, and cut out all unnecessary spending. Find ways to increase your income; then, choose a payback plan. At crown.org you can sign up for trained budget coaches, online courses, free guides, and worksheets to guide you each step of the way. Set a date to become debt-free. Post it where you’ll see it daily and commit it to the Lord. Remember: Don’t be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:6)
