Avoid Vain Pursuits

Is your time spent in vain pursuits?

Time and money can be squandered when we’re lured by things of this world. Jesus didn’t die on the cross so we could spend our lives in pursuit of vanity upon vanity. He died to stake His claim of ownership on our lives. We were bought with a price and beckoned to serve Him and build His kingdom, not our own. You become a steward when you recognize that you’re God’s temporary manager of time, possessions, money, and talents. It’s a privilege that comes with great responsibility. You are not the owner but you’re called to be faithful to His purposes. Whether you have a little or a lot entrusted to your care, choose to let God have total control over your financial choices. It involves the principle of dying to self and coming alive in Christ.

Once we recognize our identity as stewards, everything is done for the glory of God. Work, management of resources, and our very lives reflect our submission to His ways and His purposes. A key to making clear, wise choices is found in consciously handing over ownership of our resources to God. A “quit claim deed” or a transfer of ownership to God is a beneficial reminder that everything belongs to Him. Psalm 24:1 says, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;” So, don’t waste time in vain pursuits. “…But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:20-21)
