Gratitude Trumps Worry

Do you constantly worry?

It can be difficult to make ourselves stop worrying, but we can decide to ask God to help us. Here’s my recommendation:

• Ask God for what you need or want. Be honest and vulnerable.

• Thank Him for what He’s already given you.

• Then, acknowledge His character and thank Him for being the kind of Father who always gives good gifts to His children.

In Matthew 7, Jesus said, “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will you give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:9-11) Let’s cultivate the habit of intentionally noticing the ways that God provides. Teach your children so they’ll look for His blessings and give thanks as well. He takes care of us, even before we know our needs, and knowing that He is good, we can trust His purpose – even, and especially, in the waiting. He may be developing our patience and self-control. He may have something better for us in His perfect timing. By surrendering every area of our lives to God, including our finances, we’re free to trust Him to meet our needs, but if we hold too tightly and begin to worry, we’ll be in bondage to those very things. So, let go. Trust Him to provide in ways beyond your imagination. Then, thank Him for His immeasurable goodness.
