Don’t Blame God

Money is a topic frequently discussed in the New Testament. It’s an area of our life that God can and will use to test our obedience to Him. In our society, we have a value-rating system that’s based on material worth. Social media reinforces it and people find themselves struggling to keep up with the Joneses and they are struggling to keep up with the Smiths. It’s just as common in the Church today as it is in the unbelieving world. Fortunately, God’s value system is based on spiritual worth and it’s measured by our willingness to accept His direction. This struggle between materialism and spirituality is addressed directly by the Lord. In Matthew 6:24, Jesus said, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

God wants us to use financial difficulties as an opportunity to trust Him more fully. It’s a time when we demonstrate to others what we really believe. One man in the Bible suffered tremendous loss. He lost his health, all of his assets, and even his children. Yet, “Through it all Job did not sin nor did he blame God.” (Job 1:22)

Have you ever blamed God for your problems? Think about it. Maybe you haven’t said it. Perhaps you’ve thought it. If you have, then confess it to the Lord and ask for forgiveness. God’s there to be your anchor in the storm.
