Crazy Money! Stanley Cup Collection

It’s Crazy Money Day!

My mother collected Beanie Babies. She had an entire display case full of them. She also collected Department 56 Christmas Villages. Maybe you’ve collected things along the way as well. One Alabama teenager claims her parents helped her collect every Stanley Cup on the market. In the past year, she’s acquired 67 of them. She told the Wall Street Journal that she’s obsessed. Well, I guess so! Her parents have spent $3,000 on that obsession. Stanley cups have become such a sensation, that when Target and Starbucks offered a special edition, people camped outside the stores! Needless to say, they sold out, but you can find them on eBay for hundreds of dollars.

In 1 Corinthians 16, Paul addressed a different kind of collection – a collection of money for the poor He said, “Now about the collection for the Lord’s people: Do what I told the Galatian churches to do. On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made. Then, when I arrive, I will give letters of introduction to the men you approve and send them with your gift to Jerusalem.” (1 Corinthians 16:1-3) We need an eternal perspective! Jesus told us to remember the poor, and Paul taught us to do it. In addition, we’re to support our family, our churches, and ministers of the gospel. Collecting worldly items seems silly when there are people at home and around the world in need.
