It’s Crazy Money Day!

Social media influencers have large followers of young men falling for the trend called “looksmaxxing.” More than seeking help for hair, skincare, diet, and exercise, young men are becoming consumed with their looks. From Botox to braces, nose jobs, and surgeries, they’re investing lots of time and dollars to improve their appearance. Plastic surgery is a growing trend. A particular emphasis is on having an ideal jawline – one that’s well-defined, chiseled, and square. So, young guys are having chin augmentations, neck liposuction, and more. The hashtag Looksmaxxing exploded on TikTok with views exceeding 6 billion over the past year. Our emphasis should be on developing Godly character.

The Apostle Paul’s admonition to the Romans applies to us today. “In view of God’s mercy, let’s offer our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to the Lord—this is our true and proper worship.” (Romans 12:1) Let’s not conform to the pattern of this world and the influence of social media, but seek to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. We’re God’s handiwork, fearfully and wonderfully made. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, worthy of stewarding with honor and proper care, but not with preoccupation! As the Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 4, “…physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”
