Is it Time to Change Jobs?

Do you really like your job?

Are you happy at work or do you dream of something mentally stimulating and exciting to get to do every day? Tough jobs can build resilience, stretch us, and prepare us for the future, but occasionally, we have to make a change. If you experience stress that wakes you up in the middle of the night or it gnaws on you after finishing a large project, consider a different position within the company or a totally different job. If you’re unable to give the best of your time and talents, begin searching in your free time. If there’s no opportunity for advancement, no matter how well you perform or stretch your job description, consider looking elsewhere.

First, ask for more responsibility or further training. If this is not well received, start searching. Are you unable to be yourself at work? Do you adopt a persona that you would never take on when you’re with friends? God created you unique and individual with special talents and gifts. If you can’t be yourself, start searching. If you absolutely dread going to work or you’re ever asked to compromise your integrity, begin looking now. Work is a gift from God and a means to bring Him Glory. Finding or creating a job that allows you to do that will be much more fulfilling. Remember: “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3:23-24)
