Financial Advice – The Word vs. The World
The Word and the world vastly differ on financial advice.
Do you follow the world or God’s Word for your financial advice? Few people see the Bible as a financial guidebook. Yet it’s full of spiritual and practical advice that will transform everything in our lives including our finances. Here are the top three lessons where the Bible differs from the financial advice you may hear in the world.
The first is Lordship. Money is not your master. Cash is not King. Becoming a millionaire is not an appropriate life purpose. The Bible makes a clear distinction in Matthew 6:24: “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” Serving money means you allow it to control your decisions, your direction, and your life purpose. As Christians, we must resist this.
The second difference is Stewardship. We’re temporary trustees of God’s property. Psalm 24:1 makes it clear, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” This changes the purpose of money from accumulation to managing well and advancing God’s purposes.
The third difference is Generosity. We’re to give with joy. We care for our family and support the local church and those in need. Lordship, Stewardship, and Generosity impact our financial plans, our financial purposes, and our financial goals. They should transform everything in our lives spiritually and financially.
