Crazy Money! He Made a Big Mistake with Money

It’s Crazy Money Day!

Have you ever made a mistake with money? I’ve made plenty, but listen to what this guy did! It’s a whale of a story! “Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah saying, ‘Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it, for their evil has come up before me.’ But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the Lord.” (Jonah 1:1-3)

Jonah bought a ticket to sail away. He misused his money thinking he could escape the presence of the Lord. God wanted Nineveh to repent from evil practices. It was 200 miles away and known for being cruel and bloodthirsty. Jonah wanted no part of that plan. He foolishly he could run away. So, he purchased a ticket on a ship heading to Tarshish 2,500 miles away. He used money to try and escape God’s call, but God pursued Jonah and got his attention in the belly of a whale. There he suffered the consequences of his sin. 

Have you ever said “No” or willingly disobeyed God’s financial principles? Have you ever been selfish, proud, greedy, or covetous? Ever idolized something or been dishonest? When we separate ourselves from God, we will suffer the consequences. So, take this lesson to heart! God’s financial principles are for your good. Don’t ignore Him or His Word.
