A New Year’s Goal of Saving
Happy New Year!
Have you “resolved” to improve your finances this year? Can I challenge you to focus on one commitment? Start new habits with the goal to save more money and stick with them, while remembering that motives matter. Start by saving a thousand dollars. Then, set a higher goal by saving another thousand, and then another. Your lifestyle will reflect your habits as you reap the rewards of self-control.
Here are a few ways to kick-start your saving program this year. Use coupons whenever you shop for groceries. The more time you invest in looking for coupons and planning your meals, the more you will save. Pack your lunch. It’s cheaper than eating out. If you pack leftovers you’ll save time and money! Implement a “no spending week”. This requires some planning, but the payoff is immediate! Give up alcohol and sodas. Studies show that both are detrimental to your health. Not only will you save money, you’ll improve your health. Exercise at home. Walk, bike, or take a hike. Studies show that walking among trees reduces your cortisol levels – your primary stress hormone. You can relax while saving the cost of a gym membership! Cut your streaming services. The average American subscriber pays nearly $1000 a year for them. Ruthlessly cut them and spend more time cooking and exercising.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit, you can exercise self-control to save like never before. Set a goal today – then deposit something every week! Automatic deposits can keep you from spending. Why not start today?
And if you can’t save because of credit card debt? Christian Credit Counselors will help. They’ll create a debt management plan specifically for you. For more information visit online at crown.org/ccc.
