Honesty
by Chuck Bentley
I have traveled to many beautiful places in the world that are totally devastated by corruption. Like cancer of the body, dishonesty spreads death and destruction, and its miserable effects are difficult to contain.
Some Christians have conducted surveys of the population living in countries plagued by bribery and extortion. The surveys revealed that the majority of individuals totally agree that corruption is a major problem in their country. However, when asked if they see any problem with lying to have their own needs met, the same people believe that lying under conditions in which they benefit is acceptable.
This type of thinking must make God’s heart ache.
God placed you and I in this world to reveal Himself through us. In order for this to happen, we must take a stand to live by His standards of absolute honesty.
There may be times when our honesty results in personal loss or persecution. But our biggest potential losses involve much more than money.
If we are not honest with something as trivial as money, we will not be entrusted with something far greater. “So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?” (Luke 16:11 NIV).
We should pray for a personal revival of absolute honesty in our own hearts and then in our respective nations.
