Getting out the Message

Nothing interferes more with our ability to serve God than our need to earn a living. An observer from 100 years ago would be awestruck by the improvement in our living standards and by the amount of leisure time our technology has provided.

Few Americans regularly work more than a 50-hour week; most work 44 hours or less. In addition, we now live an average of 23 years longer than we did 100 years ago.

When all these factors are weighed together with the fact that the percentage of Christians in America are dwindling, it would seem clear that we ought to be getting out the message of Jesus Christ much better than we are.

The simple truth is that most Americans are too busy to serve God. We have grown complacent and comfortable in God’s blessings and have forgotten the first commandment.

In the meantime, immorality and cults have grown to alarming proportions, because their advocates are more zealous in their support.

Since God asks for obedience rather than demanding it, we must be sure not to ignore the very reasons for our existence: to glorify God and get out the message.

“Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you will be My people; and you will walk in all the way which I command you, that it may be well with you” (Jeremiah 7:23).
