How to Cheat
by Larry Burkett
I heard of a Christian couple who, in order to qualify for a low-income, subsidized government loan, had the wife’s employer reduce her working hours. Because she made too much money to qualify for the loan, she reduced her working hours from 40 to 20, which also dropped her salary enough to help them qualify for the loan.
Then, after getting the loan, she went back to working her original hours. They believed there was nothing wrong with doing this since they actually didn’t have too much income when they qualified for the loan.
This couple lost the concept of being able to be honest and also failed to trust the Lord for their needs. In order to get the loan they thought they needed, they relied on human devices, trickery, and deceitfulness.
If I could have talked to this couple I would have asked them to consider what God thought of what they had done. He knew all about it, of course.
Our purpose in life is to serve God. The government may never find out what this couple did; but, let me assure you, we all have to answer to a higher power than the government.
We are told in God’s Word that if we regard iniquity in our hearts, God will not hear us.
No matter what other people are doing, do not conform to the image of this world.
