Financial Disagreements in Marriage
by Larry Burkett
When you or your spouse seeks to have your own way about money in your marriage, your inability to get what you want is bound to cause disagreements.
The solution for these disagreements is to turn to God and ask Him for help. You don’t have all the answers. And, following God’s plan for managing money and possessions will give you and your spouse a framework for being unified about finances.
If your spouse is not a believer, don’t resort to divorce. As a believer, you’ve been sanctified (set apart) for the Lord, and the family is blessed by your relationship with Him.
Paul noted in 1 Corinthians 7:14 that “the unbelieving husband is set apart (separated, withdrawn from heathen contamination, and affiliated with the Christian people) by union with his consecrated (set-apart) wife” (AMP).
The Bible says to submit to your husband, which may not sound appealing to you at this time. However, submission usually melts the heart of a proud man.
In the meantime, turn to God and ask Him to help you reconcile your differences. And, as always, share the truth in love.
