GIF God’s Absolutes
“If our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him.”
(1 John 3:21-22 NIV)
God’s Absolutes
by Larry Burkett
The actual violations of God’s commandments involve attitudes that develop over a period of time and are difficult to guard against. Most of us simply find ourselves doing them without realizing how or when the attitudes started.
It’s apparent from God’s Word that He also recognizes this and has provided an objective question we can ask ourselves to measure our internal attitudes: How do we respond to temptations?
God’s minimum acceptable attitudes are developed by accepting the two conditions mentioned in the verse following today’s Scripture verse: “This is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us” (1 John 3:23).
Christ said that loving God more than anything else is a prerequisite to receiving God’s best, and I believe that’s what most of us want, isn’t it?
Use the words of a hymn by Frances Havergal and Henry Malan as your prayer: Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee. Take my moments and my days and let them flow in ceaseless praise.
