GIF Mortify the Flesh
“If you are living according to the flesh, you must die, but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.”

Mortify the Flesh
by Larry Burkett
Instead of saying “putting to death the deeds of the body,” the King James version of the Bible uses the term “mortify the deeds of the body.”
I think what the apostle Paul was saying is that if you’re living according to your fleshly desires, just doing whatever you happen to think is right, you’re going to die—physically and spiritually.
Then he goes further and says, “All who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Romans 8:14).
Paul was giving his generation (and now ours) a spiritual attitude check. If you are living in the flesh and doing all the things the world around you is doing, you’d better check your spiritual condition.
Personally I don’t want to be a part of the group identified in verse 13. I prefer the group he wrote about in verse 14.
Think about this: “Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him” (Romans 8:8-9). “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing” (John 6:63).
Father, I ask in Jesus’ name that you will help me to put to death the fleshly desires in my life.
