Eliminate Failure
by Larry Burkett

Jim operated a business with another man who was both his friend and partner. When the business began to generate losses, rather than profits, Jim called and shared his concern with me, stating that they were losing up to $1,000 a day.

As I reviewed the nature of the business, I learned that Jim hadn’t wanted to go into this particular business, but he did so because of his friendship with his partner.

I asked Jim if he had dedicated his business to God, and he said that he hadn’t. I explained that before God can establish our plans our works must first be committed to Him.

The verse for today is a guide to help us to begin eliminating some of our failures. If we are going to commit our works to God, there are prerequisites that must be met.

First, is the nature of our work honoring to God? Second, what is the purpose of our efforts? In 1 Peter 4:11 we read that the purpose is that “in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.”

Jim’s business was really a “planned failure” from God’s viewpoint. In all good conscience, he could not ask God to bless the business, because the works couldn’t be committed to the Lord.

Remember, works committed to God will be supported by God.
