Praising God
by Larry Burkett
To me, praising God is an integral part of the Christian walk, because it is acknowledging God’s ownership over my life.
I believe that one fundamental principle established all through God’s Word is that as we praise Him, we acknowledge Him as the omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent Creator.
When I think about praising God, my mind always goes back to the psalms of David; he continually praised God in song, in word, and in spirit. And, of David, God said he was a man after His own heart. David’s praise was an expression of his love for the Creator.
In David’s day, when a subject entered a king’s presence, that person bowed—an acknowledgment of authority. When we get on our knees before God we are doing the same thing: acknowledging His total dominion over our lives.
It’s easy to praise God when things are going well, isn’t it? But, we must continue to praise Him in all circumstances, realizing that He expects our “sacrifice of thanksgiving.”
“Let them also offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, and tell of His works with joyful singing” (Psalm 107:22).
