Seeking the Kingdom – My MoneyLife with Chuck Bentley | June 4, 2018

My wife spent a few days with a wealthy friend who plans to leave part of her significant estate to their grown children. When asked how her children manage money, the woman replied, “Oh they can’t save a dime!”

Hi, this is Chuck Bentley with My Money Life from Crown.

Maybe you have adult children caught up in the materialism of the day. But, they don’t even realize it. Or, maybe you’re like those children!

Jesus told us to, “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)

We are to seek God’s kingdom first to avoid being consumed and controlled by the material possessions of man’s kingdom.

We have a greater abundance available on a day-by-day basis than any previous generation.  He knew the lure of the world would distract us from our primary purpose.

Most of us have machines that reduce the daily household labor required, our children are well-clothed and well-educated, and life expectancy is more than God’s promise of seventy years.

We have insurance plans, retirement plans, unemployment plans, and disability plans. Yet, we’re so caught up in making more money and buying bigger and better things that we‘ve lost the motivation to reach the unsaved world.

So, I ask, “Are we really seeking first the kingdom of God?”

If we’re going to spend an eternity in the presence of God and only seventy or so years on earth, shouldn’t we be more concerned about preparing for eternity – hoping to hear “Well done?”

Jesus said, “Do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on.” Because He loves us. He promises to be our Provider. Things will never satisfy but He will. We’re to work hard and steward well, so we can bring Him glory and find ultimate fulfillment.
