Jesus said to them, ‘Watch out and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.’

Aid the Enemy?
by Larry Burkett

Loving your enemies (anyone who does you harm) is different from aiding them.

Christ loved the Pharisees (He loved everyone), but He certainly did not help them.

To the contrary, as we see in today’s Scripture verse, He opposed them and warned His disciples to stay away from them. They represented a counterforce that was anti-Christian.

This is not meant to imply that all our enemies fall into the same classification as the Pharisees. But when others purposely set themselves against your interests and God’s, they certainly cannot be classified as friends.

God wants us to love others both prayerfully and spiritually, but that does not mean to aid what they are doing. On occasion God may direct you to aid someone who is doing you wrong, but it is so you can provide a strong and effective witness for Him.

Helping someone who has wronged you is the only type of “revenge” God would sanction.

“Vengeance is Mine, and retribution. . . . For the Lord will vindicate His people, and will have compassion on His servants” (Deuteronomy 32:35).
