Biblical Admonition in Work
by Larry Burkett
It is fortunate for all of us that God’s Word is both simple and complete. No subject affecting our lives is left to our own resources. Those who are resentful about the success of others, whose feelings are hurt because of the lack of recognition, or who use jobs as their alter egos all suffer from the spiritual malady: They are in service to self instead of to God.
Unfortunately, people will always fail; fortunately, God never will. If we approach our jobs with the attitude that some person must recognize us as the best, there will almost always be disappointment, because the first time the boss forgets to show appreciation or your spouse takes your hard work for granted, resentment creeps in.
We should look to the Lord for our rewards and, in doing so, find that His standards of conduct are much higher than any person’s.
Satan’s number one weapon is pride. God’s number one defense is humility.
