Budgeting Your Time
by Larry Burkett
Many people think they’re organized and use their time efficiently but, in reality, most of us work according to external pressures, with the most demanding things getting done first. It’s called tyranny of the urgent.
Before writing one of my books I did a survey of stay-at-home moms, and one of the questions dealt with time management in their homes. The most common comment was something like, “It seems like I never get everything done now. I don’t know how I was able to work and keep a home, but I did.”
Not using time wisely usually results from being disorganized. Disorganization is an accumulation of little bad habits all strung together and it is the major enemy of personal success.
Sir John Lubbock said, “In truth, people can generally make time for what they choose to do; it is not really the time but the will that is lacking.”
It’s important to keep a good balance. As important as good organization of your time is, don’t go overboard. When you budget your time, build in some slack as well.
Ask God to help you budget your time so you can keep a good balance in your everyday life. And of course, that includes spending time with Him.
“The steps of a man are established by the Lord; and He delights in his way” (Psalm 37:23).
