Changing My Name
by Larry Burkett
Jesus called Peter “The Rock” because he was solid. Yes, he fell short many times (including denying Christ three times), but God saw beyond that, knew his heart, and recognized his value.
What would my name be if Jesus was going to change it? Well, sometimes I feel like it might be “Stupid,” but I guess we all have times like that.
If I had a choice of what He would call me, it would be “Larry, the Faithful.” Even though I sometimes fail to measure up to God’s best, I try never to do anything that is disobedient to God’s Word.
We read about David in the Old Testament and the terrible things he did, including adultery and murder. And yet, God looked back on David and said that David was a man after His own heart.
God is able to look past our actions and see our hearts. I trust that is what He is doing with me, because I do want to serve Him faithfully.
“It is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy [faithful]” (1 Corinthians 4:2).
What name do you think Jesus would give to you?
