Devoted Assistance
by Larry Burkett
One Sunday after church, Paige, a single mother, was leaving the sanctuary, dragging her two-year-old beside her. Paige was exhausted. She’d been working 11-hour days and had worked all day Saturday. Her toddler needed her but she had nothing left to give. She needed rest and time to regroup, so during the service she had silently asked for God’s help.
One of the ladies in the church noticed her as she walked by and said, “Paige, would you let me take Rachel for the afternoon? You look like you could use a break.”
It was the best thing anyone could have done for this young mother. It was an answer to prayer.
As the body of Christ, or as individuals, we can be the answer to a single parent’s prayer. God will be honored by our service and we will be blessed.
Do you have someone in your church (or your neighborhood) who needs your help for an afternoon now and then? Sometimes we think the only way to help others is to give money, but time is a valuable commodity in situations like this one.
Ask God to show you someone you can be a blessing to by giving of your time and resources. Single parents are in a daily tug-of-war and they need to know that there’s hope.
