Greed
by Larry Burkett
Greed means “I want more. I want the best. I’ll not be satisfied with anything less.” Greed can separate families and friendships, and it breeds dishonesty and guilt. Greed is evident in our society in everything from bigger homes to flashier cars to obsession over hoarding money.
Many Christians may be surprised to face the Lord and explain why they hoarded money while others went hungry.
Once the commitment has been made to a disciplined lifestyle, regardless of the abundance of income, the danger of greed and its by-products is significantly reduced.
It’s only when we discern the true needs in our lives, based on God’s principles and values, that we can control greed.
Jesus warned us, “Be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions” (Luke 12:15).
