Learn to Say No
by Larry Burkett
We live in a time-crazy society. When you prioritize your time, be honest about it.
There are only so many things you can realistically accomplish in one day. Concentrate on the important ones.
I have found that much of my own unrealistic schedule is a result of my own doing. I hate to say no to people, especially when there are so many good things to do.
Some of this tendency is probably ego: I like to be asked to do things. Some of it is naiveté. There was a time when I thought I could teach full-time, travel full-time, write full-time, and run an organization—all at the same time.
Instead, I found that the busier I was the more behind I got; the more behind I got, the more frustrated I got; and the more frustrated I got, the less productive I became.
Therefore, I have learned to say “No!” And you know what? The world just goes on turning anyway. I have long since discovered that I am not God’s plan; I’m just a part of it.
Does this strike a chord in your own life?
