Lessons Learned

We can learn from all the experiences we have in life, especially the difficult times.

When I reflect on the years since I was diagnosed with cancer and underwent two major surgeries, I believe that God is teaching me how to trust Him day by day.

If somebody had asked me a few years ago if I were trusting the Lord daily, I would have said sincerely, “Yes, I am.” But now I realize that I didn’t understand what it meant to truly trust the Lord day by day—to wake up every day and accept that day as a true gift from God and praise Him for it and not anticipate anything long-term.

That doesn’t mean that I don’t do any planning. I do plan—for myself, my family, and the ministry—but I don’t anticipate or take for granted a long life. I believe that has helped me learn to trust God more day by day.

“Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation” (Isaiah 12:2).

No matter what the circumstances, our sense of joy, satisfaction, and fulfillment in life will increase if we completely trust in the Lord.

Think of some difficulty you’ve experienced and how it has benefited your spiritual life; then praise God for it.
