Selfishness
by Larry Burkett
The theology of selfishness is an easy one to promote because most of us were raised with it, and today it virtually dominates our society. It’s the philosophy called “get all you can out of life today; live with gusto.” This certainly is not a new philosophy. As you can see in today’s Scripture, Solomon wrote about it in the book of Ecclesiastes.
Selfishness, ego, and pride are about as opposite from biblical concepts as light is from darkness.
It is important to discern the difference between the pride of wealth and the wealth itself. Christ never condemned wealth; He condemned the wealthy-minded of this world.
God has blessed many people with both spiritual and material wealth. Those who are selected by God to manage a large surplus—to feed His sheep—should manifest humility, not pride.
Dear Father, am I guilty of selfishness, ego, and pride? Help me to operate in humility and walk in the light of your Word.
