The Test of Discipleship
by Larry Burkett
The message the Lord Jesus Christ gave His disciples just before going to be with the Father in Heaven is recorded in John 13 and 14. He announced His betrayal, His departure, and His return to receive His disciples unto Himself. For three years Jesus had ministered to them and taught them His way. These last words with His disciples would be vital in reinforcing all He had taught them.
There are many vital parts of the Christian’s life. Caring for and witnessing to the lost is one part. Prayer, Bible study, and gathering together as a body for fellowship are all very essential to Christian growth. But caring for one another is the test of a disciple, because that, according to Jesus, is how everyone will know that we belong to Him.
We demonstrate the degree of our love for Christ by the way we give to other Christians. Giving to the needs of another demonstrates the sincerity of our love.
Remember, the household of faith is built on the foundation of brotherly love.
How do you think Christ views us if we show little concern for the needs of others? Can you pass the test of discipleship?
