GIF Unmet Christian Needs
“If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,’ and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?”
(James 2:15-16)
Unmet Christian Needs
by Larry Burkett
Unfortunately, unmet needs in the church is the norm in today’s Christianity. But it is the responsibility of each Christian to supply the needs of others who cannot do so for themselves.
Harry Truman made a famous statement about the presidency: “The buck stops here.” And the same is true for each Christian.
If we see a brother or sister in need and we close our hearts to that need, what kind of love is that?
Of course, God will not lay every need on every Christian’s heart, but He does lay on our hearts specific needs that we are to meet.
Stephan Grellet said, “I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now; let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “It is one of the most beautiful compensations of this life that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself.”
And the psalmist said, “To those who fear Him, there is no want. . . They who seek theLord shall not be in want of any good thing” (Psalm 34:9-10).
