“Give and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, they will pour into your lap. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.”

What Does it Mean?
by Larry Burkett
Few verses are quoted more than today’s Scripture regarding the principle of giving and receiving. When I first read this verse, shortly after committing my life to Christ, I pondered it for many weeks.
Did God really mean what this verse says? To me, there were some seemingly obvious difficulties with the principle that receiving was a matter of having to give first.
After many hours of contemplation and study, my conclusion was that when we give we should expect but never demand. Even if God blesses us far beyond our expectations, both materially and spiritually, our giving must be out of a desire to please God, not to profit from the relationship.
Giving is a material expression of a deeper spiritual obedience to God.
What is your motive for giving? Is it from a heart of love? Do you expect to receive from God? Pray that you will give in the right spirit.
