Wisdom From Above
by Chuck Bentley
Never make the mistake of believing that you can handle money well using your common sense instead of biblical wisdom. God knows more about your money than you do, and He wants to be part of your life and your finances.
Psalm 14:2 says, “The LORD looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God” (NIV).
Do you seek God’s wisdom? “The wise in heart accepts commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin” (Proverbs 10:8 NIV).
Those seem like strong words, but not if you’re in the habit of seeking God’s financial wisdom and have seen the consequences suffered by those who have gone their own way.
Believers who dig deep into the Scriptures realize there’s much more to learn, but a fool gets caught up in himself and thinks he knows everything.
The only reliable source of wisdom is the Word of God, and only by going back to this source can you hope to find counsel that you can place your total confidence in.
“The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward” (Psalm 19:9-11 NIV).
